Actionable Oral Health Resolutions For A Brighter
And Healthier Smile
2
Have you set some goals about having a healthier
lifestyle this year? Why not make it a goal to
improve your oral health? Here are new oral
health resolutions that will go a long way toward
giving you a brighter and healthier smile this
year.
3
Pick the right toothbrush
Do you know how to choose the right
toothbrush? A good toothbrush should be able to
reach the places that need cleaning and should
have soft bristles. The bristles need to be
flexible, the kind that bends right under your
gums. Hard bristles are harsh and can wear down
the structure of your tooth.
4
Change your toothbrush regularly
It could be hard for you to give up a good
toothbrush. But when bristles start to wear, its
time to change your toothbrush. Worn bristles are
less effective at cleaning your teeth. Dentists
recommend changing your toothbrush every three to
four months.
5
Harder isnt better
In brushing your teeth, harder isnt better.
Dont scrub your teeth too hard, thinking that
it will thoroughly clean your teeth and gums.
Plaque is soft and loose, so theres no need to
scrub hard. Gently brush your teeth and gums as
if youre massaging them.
6
Ditch the soda
Soda is harsh on teeth. Citric acid and
phosphoric acid give soda its bite. Fizzy seems
fun, but it eats away your tooths surface.
Occasional soda is fine, but a can/glass or
more a day will soften your tooth enamel and will
make it susceptible to cavities. Drink water
instead. Add some flavor such as mint leaves,
lemon, or sliced citrus.
7
Consume Calcium and other Vitamins
Your teeth need plenty of calcium and other
vitamins. Calcium supplements depending on your
doctors prescription and dairy products are
good. Vitamin D is necessary for maintaining
healthy teeth and gums. Vitamin B complex also
protects your teeth and gums from bleeding and
cracking.
8
Visit your dentist every six months
By seeing your dentist every six months for
regular checkups, youd be able to prevent oral
health problems that will cause you
discomfort. Proper oral hygiene is more than
just clean teeth and fresh breath it is one of
the best ways to help maintain good overall
health. Resolve to have a healthier diet, to quit
smoking and to maintain an oral hygiene routine.
