  • Whenever you consume hot, cold, sweet or acidic
foods and drinks, or due to temperature changes,
making your teeth or a tooth sensitive or
painful. Tooth sensitivity pain usually subsides
    after a short period.
  • Nearly 57 of the people in U.S suffer from
sensitivity. Women are more likely to be affected
than men. It can start at any time. It is more
common in people between the age of 20 and 40,
although it can also affect people in their 60s
    and 70s..
  • Dentin hypersensitivity or better known as tooth
sensitivity is the most common dental problem, it
occurs mainly due to the exposure of dentin, a
part of the tooth which covers the nerves.

5
How to
Prevent
it?
6
Brushing your teeth properly twice a day for 2
minutes with toothpaste that does not have high
levels of abrasives, and also flossing once a
day, can help reduce the chance of tooth
sensitivity. Consumption of low acidic foods and
drinks also helps in preventing tooth
sensitivity.
Your dentist may also prescribe an at-home, high
fluoride level toothpaste or brush-on fluoride
gel or a fluoride rinse.

Specially formulated to desensitize the tooth or
by filling the tubules in the dentin that are
exposing the nerve and providing extra protection
against decay. Other treatments for sensitive
teeth include fluoride varnishes that can be
painted onto the teeth to provide added
protection.

Between your Visits
  • Brushing, flossing and rinsing are the three most
important steps to achieve good oral care at
    home. Other healthy habits include
  • Avoid tobacco
  • Limit beverages like coffee, soda and alcohol
  • Teeth need calcium and vitamins. Consume calcium
    rich food.

Going to a dental doctor is important but just
that is not enough. You have to take proper care
to avoid oral problems. Make sure that you take
proper care of your teeth and gums. Understand
that plaque keeps forming from time to time. It
can be cleared with regular brushing and
flossing.
