7 FERTILITY FACTS PEOPLE DONT KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT
2
Introduction
  • Infertility is a topic that is surrounded with a
lot of taboos. This prevents free discussion
about the topic, which consequently leads to the
propagation of many myths. For example, there
still exists a belief that only the female
partner is to blame if a couple fails to conceive
naturally. However, statistics do not support
this assumption. It has been found that among
couples who seek fertility treatment, the fault
lies with the male partner in over one-third of
the cases. Similarly, a couple is tagged
infertile if they are not able to conceive a
child in the first couple of attempts. However,
its perfectly normal for a healthy and fertile
couple to attempt pregnancy for several months
without success. The key is to keep trying in
accordance with the female partners ovulation
    cycle.

3
Fertility issues affect men and women equally,
its gender neutral.
  • In over 30 of infertile couples, male-factor
infertility is the primary cause. Female-factor
infertility is the main cause in another 30 of
cases with the remaining infertility issues being
    a combination of both.

4
Getting pregnant can take time, even for young,
fertile healthy couples.
  • In any given month, a healthy and fertile couple
only has a 20 chance of getting pregnant. Trying
to conceive for several months without success is
considered normal and not a sign of anything
    problematic.

5
Too much of anything is bad, even exercise.
  • While its important to be healthy, excessive
exercise should be avoided as it can affect
fertility in men as well as women. Men especially
should be careful of testicular heat as it can
    harm their sperm quality.

6
Pre-pregnancy health is important.
  • The diet, health and lifestyle of each partner in
the period leading up to the pregnancy can have
an impact on the childs long-term health, affect
their adulthood and even stretch into the next
    generation.

7
Excess weight can affect fertility.
  • Obese and overweight women struggle with
irregular menstrual cycles. Irregular refers to
cycles that last 31 days or longer or skip a
month. This causes infrequent ovulation, which
    makes getting pregnant difficult.

8
Lifestyle choices influence fertility.
  • Lifestyle choices are proven to affect a man or
woman's ability to conceive a child. Before
seeking expert assistance, its a good idea to
evaluate everyday habits and see how they might
    interfere with fertility.

9
Diet plays a key role in fertility
  • A fertility diet can help a woman conceive
    faster. While fertility-affecting factors like
genetics and age cannot be controlled, dietary
choices can be. For e.g., avoid processed and
sugary foods as they can affect ovulation.
