ABOUT UNIVERSITY

• MNLU was established by the Maharashtra
  Government under Maharashtra National Law
  University Act (Maharashtra Act No. VI of 2014)
  in 2016.
• Also, it happens to be the 19th NLU in the
  country.

  Council of India.

CAMPUS

• Currently, MNLU has three campuses in Maharashtra
  i.e, in Aurangabad, Mumbai and Nagpur.
• The information about MNLU, Nagpur is given
  below
• The main campus of the University is under
  construction and the Government of Maharashtra
  has allocated a whopping 750 crores fund for the
  same.
• Also, the new building of the campus is expected
  to be completely a green one with state of art
  facilities.
• Additionally, the campus will follow Indian Green
  Building Council (IGBC) norms. The construction
  of the permanent campus is expected to be
  complete by 2021.

HISTORY

• The ever growing demand for the establishment of
  a national level legal institute in the State of
  Maharashtra felt quite earlier.
• Also, Nagpur one of the first cities which was
  proposed to have a National Law University by
  various dignitaries.
• However, on February 06, 2011 the demand for a
  NLU in Nagpur raised again but instead of Nagpur,
  the NLU shifted to Mumbai.
• Protests made against this move and even, PILs
  also filed.
• In addition to that, the Government was forced to
  allow the NLU for Nagpur. The State Assembly
  passed the Maharashtra National Law University
  Act (Maharashtra Act No. VI of 2014) paving way
  for the establishment of the institution.

HISTORY

• CJI appointed Sharad Bobde as the first
  chancellor of MNLU, Nagpur.
• The University Grants Commission also pleased to
  include the university under section 2(f) and 12
  (B) of the U.G.C. Act. 1956.
• Consequently, the UGC funds under different
  schemes allotted to under respective plans (VIII
  Plan to XII plan).
• In addition to that, the institution deems on
  maintaining and committing to the ethos and
  values so that it helps them to move on the
  pathway of success effortlessly.
