2
WHAT IS ALT TEXT?
An alt text is short for alternative text. This
text is an alternative to the images. These alt
texts are concise and describe the images. One
must have seen the button titled alt text at
the bottom right of some pictures. After clicking
on that, alt text is shown. Alt text is also
added to the HTML images and these appear in case
of partial or slow loading speed.

ALT TEXT FOR IMAGE ACCESSIBILITY
An alt text is being incorporated in more and
more websites containing an image and rightfully
so. An alt text has numerous benefits and one of
the main importance of adding an alt text to the
images on your website is making the page
accessible. Mainly an alt text makes the images
in the content accessible to visually impaired
viewers. One such example is that with an alt
text, a person suffering from color blindness or
partial blindness can also comprehend the image.
Hence, we can say that alt text ensures that
the page is accessible to every individual
regardless of their abilities. Also, while
surfing the online content base, several
interruptions can come in the way. One such
interruption is a poor internet connection.
Almost all of us, at some point, have faced bad
net connectivity. A poor or slow internet
connection leads to improper loading of the page.
This improper loading more than often includes
partial or failure to load heavy elements like
videos or images. With the presence of an alt
text for the images, one can ensure that even
with a partially loaded webpage, the content and
the image itself are accessible to people.

SOME THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND- ALT TEXT FOR IMAGE
ACCESSIBILITY
While writing an alt text, it's important to
restate the text written in the image itself
while explaining the image. For example, while
writing the alt text for, let's say, a poster,
one needs to not only the details of the poster
but also the main quote or title which is given
as text in the image itself. Another thing to
remember is not to use certain words. Some
words do not help in the description but rather
further confuse the reader. Such as using the
word image. For example, the alt text will read
something like, An image of a cat, or An image
of a sunrise. Another example can be that the
alt text only contains the words company logo.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, we can say that alt text is
pivotal for every online website and content
creator or content provider. By following the
tips and points mentioned in the article a
content provider or web developer can make their
content or websites accessible to everyone. This
makes the knowledge and the content accessible
and reachable to all.
