The Olmecpart 1
  • It was believed that the first migrations
    occurred as early as 35,000 to 25,000 B.C.E
    others believe that it was around 20,000 to
    13,000 B.C.E.
  • Over thousands of years the Americans grew and
    spread throughout the hemisphere
  • Two of the hemispheres most impressive cultural
    traditions developed in Mesoamerica (Mexico and
    northern central America)
  • New plants and veggies were found when they went
    to the Andean region of South America.
  • Also new technology was discovered.

  • Eventually both of these contacts crossed in
    environmental boundaries so they could make
    cultural exchanges.
  • A number of militarily groups were powerful that
    developed in Mesoamerica civilizations.
  • Olmec urban development was made possible by
    earlier advances in agriculture.
  • All of these settlements depended on the regions
    rich plant diversity and on fishing.
  • Later by 3500 B.C.E or earlier 2, the staples of
    the Mesoamerican diet was made up of corn, beans,
    and squash- were domesticated.

The Chavín part 1
  • The Chavín culture existed in what is known today
    as the modern state of Peru
  • Peru is comprised of three different types of
    landforms the Pacific coast, the Andes
    mountains, and the Amazonian lowlands.
  • The best known civilization of early Peruvian
    prehistory is Chavín.
  • Chavín is one of Peru's oldest civilizations and
    laid the cultural foundations of all later
    Peruvian civilizations.
  • The Chavín culture started in a time period
    called the Early Horizon in about 400 BC,
    although many elements of the culture can be
    traced back about 1,000 years before its start

  • The Chavín culture is known for its beautiful art
    and design but Chavín was also innovative with
    metallurgy and textile production.
  • Cloth production was revolutionized during the
    time of Chavín
  • New techniques and materials are popular through
    the use of camel hair, textile painting, the
    dying of camel hair and the "resist" painting
    style similar to modern day tie-dye
