  • The Declaration on the Elimination of VAW defines
    VAW as any act of gender-based violence that
    results in, or is likely to result in, physical,
    sexual or any harm or suffering to women,
    including threats of such acts, coercion or

  • As many as 74of people living with HIV in
    sub-Saharan Africa in 2006 were young women. This
    region represents 60 of all people living with
    HIV.
