Cerebral Palsy may be either a congenital or an
acquired condition, its symptoms may change over
time but it is not progressive.

  • Athetoid involuntary and uncontrolled movement
  • Ataxic disturbed sense of balance depth

6
Characteristics
  • Cerebral Palsy is characterized by an inability
to fully control motor skills. Depending on which
part of the brain has been damaged and the degree
of involvement of the CNS, any of the following
may occur spasms involuntary movements, abnormal
sensation and perception impairment of sight,
    hearing or speech.

7
Symptoms Include
  • Fine motor skills such as
  • Writing

and a variety of specialized tests.

9
Is There any Treatment?
  • There is no standard therapy that works for all
patients. Medication can be used to control
seizures and muscle spasms, special braces for
muscle imbalance, counseling for emotional and
    psychological needs, and other treatments.

10
Prognosis
  • Cerebral palsy cannot be cured, but due to
medical research, many patients can enjoy
near-normal lives if their neurological problems
    are properly managed.

11
For Your Info
  • Between 500,000 700,000 Americans have some
degree of Cerebral Palsy. About 3,000 babies are
