    collection by removing items or collections when
    necessary
  • What happens - metadata is removed from the DLESE
    discovery system
  • Note - updated policy accepted by Steering Comm.

Necessary deaccessioning to date (1)
  • Link no longer functions
  • DPC staff determines
  • Resource creator contacted
  • If link is not corrected in a reasonable time,
    metadata is removed
  • Out of scope (low Earth system edu relevancy)
  • Collections Comm reviews resources identified by
    DPC, AGI catalogers or DLESE Community
  • If resource not relevant, metadata is removed

  • Collection builder requests removal from DLESE
  • CB contacts DPC metadata specialists
  • Entire collection is removed
  • Metadata quality
  • Metadata that is poorly written, has a
    significant number of bad characters, or has
    inappropriate information in required fields
  • Individual metadata record is removed
