What is an interview?

• An interview is a written text based on a
  conversation between two or more persons.

• In a portrait interview a person is described,
  for instance Robbie Williams.
• You could also write about a particular theme or
  case, for instance HIV and AIDS.

• Prepare good questions, mainly open ones.
• Think about what you already know about the
  person and topic and what you want to learn.

IntroductionYou may start your interview by

1. Describing the person you are about to interview
   OR
2. Presenting something the person said in the
   interview OR
3. Describing the setting and atmosphere OR
4. Telling us why you want to write this interview

• Questions and answers
• Remember to vary the language He said,.. he
  smiled..he whispered.
• Describe facial expressions and body language.
• Describe the person and situation.

• Use both direct and indirect speech.
• Try to include reflections.

The conclusion

• Sum up the main point in your interview
  (introduction) OR
• State your opinion OR
• Give your thoughts about what may happen after
  this interview...

• The conclusion should be closely linked to the
  rest of the interview.
