The Department of Chemical and Process
Engineering is one of the five departments under
the Faculty of Engineering. Its history began
with the establishment of the Industrial
Chemistry Unit in the Department of Chemistry in
the Faculty of Physical and Applied Sciences, UKM
in 1980. The Department of Chemical and Process
Engineering was officially established in 1984
with the establishment of Faculty of Engineering.

Department of Chemical and Process
Engineering The Department has actively forged
close ties with international institutions both
in research and engineering educations. In
research, ties with top universities has been
established such as Kyoto University, Indian
Institute of Technology, Bombay, University of
Nottingham and Chulalongkorn University. In
engineering education, the departments members
are involved in research work on Asia-EU credit
transfer. The department received research grants
from both local (Ministry of Science, Technology
and Innovation and Ministry of Higher Educations)
and foreign (Middle East Desalination, JSPS, SIDA
and AUNP) funds. The Department with the
cooperation of The Institution of Engineers
Malaysia successfully organized the first
Malaysia Chem-E-Car Competition in 2004. Since
then, students from this department have been
participating in every national Chem-E-Car
competition. The Department team represented
Malaysia in the International Chem-E-Car
Competition held in Glasgow, Scotland in 2005.
Department members are actively involved in
professional bodies such as The Board of
Engineers Malaysia, The Institution of Chemical
Engineers, UK, Malaysian Branch, and The
Institution of Engineers Malaysia. Award-winning
Experienced Staff At present the Department has
27 academic staffs (5 Professors, 5 Associate
Professors, 8 Senior Lectures, 6 Lectures and 3
Tutors). Each academic staff is actively involved
in teaching, research and consultancy works in
all aspects of chemical and biochemical
engineering. Career Outcomes Our graduates have
found employment with various companies and
government agencies including multinational
corporations. The graduates are highly
sought-after due to the excellent training
provided at the undergraduates and post-graduates
levels.  Support At the post graduate levels,
financial support can come in the forms of
graduate research assistantship funded by various
research grants. The university also provides, in
small number, graduate student fellowship.
