Les emplois
1. Use the conditional tense just like in English
to be polite
Je voudrais un verre deau.
I would like a glass of water.
2. Use the conditional with the past to indicate
what would happen like a future of the past
just like in English
Il ma dit quil viendrais.
He told me that he would come.
3. The conditional is also used to express what
someone would / would not do
Je ne nagerais dans le canal.
I would not swim in the canal.

4. In a Si clause where the event is
hypothetical or unlikely to happen, use the
imperfect past tense after the Si and the
result clause will be in the conditional
(remember, the conditional and the imperfect both
use the same endings -ais, -ais, -ait, -ions,
-iez, -aient. The difference is that to form the
imperfect you drop the -er, -ir or -re and add
the endings. To form the imperfect you KEEP the
-er, -ir or -r of the -re and add the endings
Si javais imperfect le temps, jirais
conditional a la fête.
If I had time, I would go to the party I dont
have the time.
