  segregation in bus terminals

• Violence erupted
• 1st bus was bombed, riders beaten
• 2nd bus Walter Bergman
• No police intervention, federal gvt forced to
  step in
• Results
• Could keep segregation laws if didnt harm riders
• 328 imprisoned

• August 1963
• 250,000 blacks whites marched to the capital to
  show support for Kennedys Civil Rights Bill
• I Have a Dream in front of Lincoln Memorial
• 2 weeks later Birmingham Bombing
• 2 months later Kennedy assassinated
• Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964
• Outlawed segregation in public accommodations
