• But the righteous shall live by faith is a
  direct quotation of Habakkuk 24.
• To answer the questions presented we need to look
  at what the original languages meant and the
  context of the quotation. Let us read Habakkuk 1
  and 2.

• The form EMUNAH, generally rendered faithfulness,
  is found in Hab. 24 where we read, The just
  shall live by his faith---words which ought to
  be read in connection with the fifth verse of the
  first chapter, I will work a work in your days
  which ye will not believe, though it be told to
  you. (R.B. Girdlestones Synonyms of the Old
  Testament p. 102)

• EMUNAH is used of the steadiness of the hands of
  Moses in Exodus 1712 and of the stability of
  the times in Isaiah 336. (R.B. Girdlestones
  Synonyms of the Old Testament p. 103)
• Let us read the verses again, this time let us
  substitute faith by faithfulness as it should
  have been rendered.

• Romans 117 For therein is revealed a
  righteousness of God from faith unto faith as it
  is written, But the righteous shall live by
  faithfulness. (ASV)
• The word faithfulness sets the mood or the
  context for the use of the word faith for the
  rest of the chapter and the rest of the book.

• Defenition of Faithfulness- to act upon your
  faith.
• Verse 17b basically says that the just shall live
  by acting upon their faith.

• More evidences that Faith alone cannot save man.
• Faith without works is dead (James 214-20 26).
• Ye see then how that by works a man is
  justified, and not by faith only. (James 223)

• We must confess Him (Jn. 1242-43)
• He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved

• D. Wrath of God revealed against Unrighteousness

• 1. Gentiles had knowledge of Deity through
  creation. (Ps. 191 Acts 1415-17)
• 2. But Gentiles did not glorify God as Creator.

• E. God gives up the Gentiles to the
  consequences of the lusts of their hearts and
  exchanging the truth of God for a lie (118-32).
• 1. Gentiles bodies dishonored among themselves
  (v.18-25)
• 2. God gave up the Gentiles to lesbianism and
  homosexuality (v.26-27).
• 3. God gave up the Gentiles to various sins
  disrupting relationships with man (v.28-32).

• The world descent into idolatry and depravity.
• 1.) Though they knew God, they failed to Glorify
  Him.(v.21)
• 2.) They became vain in their thinking and turned
  professing to be wise became fools (v. 21-22
  (Judges 2125 177-13)

• 3.) Becoming fools they turned to idolatry
  (v.23-25).
• 4.) God gave them up to uncleanness, depravity,
  homosexuality (v. 24-25) , all kinds of
  wickedness and evil (v. 28-32).

• Conclusion
• Man was in need of the gospel for salvation.
• Man could not be saved on its own because he had
  changed the truth of God into a lie (v. 25).
