Communications Sub-Group Mission
  • To provide a forum for effective communications
    in the area of information technology between the
    Federal Government, State of MI and the local
    units of government (counties, cities, townships,
    villages).

What Weve Accomplished Communications Sub-Group
  • Identified issues/solutions
  • Reviewed literature on Joined Up Government
  • Identified deliverables in already Joined up Govt
  • Met with DIT Communications Director
  • Began scaffolding what it means to be Join Up
  • Began identifying where communications fits
  • Met with the Security and Website sub groups

  • Marketing Challenge-No matter what, the challenge
    is how do we get the word out
  • Create a dynamic website for the forum
  • A Web site and e-mail are both needed to start
    communications due to the fact that only 29 have
    websites
  • Notify locals of grant availability
  • Share security alerts
  • Create a seamless system between local, state,
    federal governments and an e-look that is
    consistent.

  • Raise awareness via speeches to existing

Create Dynamic Website Solutions
  • To Have a voluntary system on a weekly or monthly
    basis for articles to be submitted. Stick to the
    schedule
  • Segregate communications General Postings, best
    practices, job postings, news, provide security
    information
  • Communicate on articles of interest, Wireless,
    etc, by various areas
  • Pull from existing technology articles, scan
    newspapers, etc, Have an Awards Section, a
    Standards Section, a Research Section
  • Have subject matter approaches Networking,
    Applications, Cell Phones, VoiP with contact name
    and numbers
  • Provide information on state initiatives,
    interagency approaches

  • Describe the advantages a website brings now and
    for the future
  • Work through the county structures as local sites
    are being brought up
  • Establish the communications process to be used
    initially with the locals while sites are being
    developed. Collaborate with the MTA and MML and
    other stakeholders in this process.

  • Develop an interim communications strategy, via
    e-mail, until all sites are up and running
  • Explore existing standards
  • Obtain executive buy in and establish a
    framework describing our planned approach to
    working collaboratively
  • Work on developing a governance model
