Class is in session, today we are traveling to
Ancient Rome. We are going to have so much fun.
Here we go! Family was the most important aspect
of Roman culture. They also had many interesting
daily life activities, the common Roman day was
very busy. Your day would be different depending
on your social class. There were also different
forms of roman entertainment, such as, chariot
racing. Rome is a very interesting place. Lets
get started!

• Father was most important (paterfamilias)
• Men full grown, at 14
• Woman full grown, at 12
• Married couple, children, and slaves.
• Sons followed in fathers footsteps
• Encouraged to have large family.

• Go to baths in afternoon
• Socialized with friends
• Dinner at 300 p.m.

Life as a Busy Busissness Man

• Get up early, eat breakfast.
• Pray with family at household shrine.
• Prepare a speech and dictate a few letters.
• Clients greet you and ask for advice.
• Forum for a chat with friends.

• School lasted dawn to mid-day.
• Rome had bookshops and public libraries.
• Books are long scrolls.
• Learned to read and write Latin and Greek.
• Only wealthy children were educated.
• Girls left school at 12, to household.

• Women career opportunities are rare.
• Career depends on position in society.
• Dad passes on skill and knowledge to son.
• Many craftsmen to keep enough goods.
• Busy streets lined with shops and workshops.

• The most important article of clothing was toga.
• Poor men wore linen cloth and a tunic.
• Type of toga worn describe you.
• Rich women wore lots of jewelry and make-up.
• Usually made of wool and linen.
