Vachnamurut
Vachnamurut is one of the most important shastras
of our sampraday and is read in all our Mandirs
every morning after the Shikshapatri.
Vachan - Discourses (Teachings)          Amurut
- Nectar (Immortality) The Vachnamurut is a
collection of discourses, which once absorbed is
everlasting. Lord Swaminarayan extracted the
essence of all Hindu scriptures and related them
in the form of the Vachnamurut. Scribed and
compiled by 5 Nand Santos

Muktanand Swami, the senior most sadhu of

So, the editors of the Vachanamrut were highly
competent scholars and deeply spiritually
inclined. We as readers or listeners, can
understand that the editors must have listened,
written and accepted the discourses of Bhagwan
Swaminarayan through their high level of
scholarly and spiritual competency. This makes
the content of the Vachanamrut all the more
valuable and significant for all aspirants. In
one of the Vachanamruts, one of the editors,
namely, Nityanand Swami, presents 114 edited
discourses to Bhagwan Swaminarayan for His
approval. He was pleased with the efforts of the
editors and thus authenticated their
compilation. The devotion, dedication,
scholarship and above all the transparency and
honesty of the editors is unique. When an answer
given by the editor/editors to the question was
not correct or complete it was rejected by the
Master. The editors clearly mention their
ignorance and inability with their specific names
in the discourses.

This holy book contains the divine speech of
Shree Swaminarayan Bhagwan. It is full of nectar
of His divine words of wisdom. A man becomes
immoral if he sips "Amrita" of gods. In the same
way, by holding these words of nectar in one's
soul, the being achieves the state of
enlightments, absolute immortality and dwells in
Akshardham. The knowledge of Vachanamrut is
obtained only by the grace of Shree Hari. Mere
striving to understand the words of this book
does not lead to the true knowledge of its
contents. Constant reading of this book leads one
into the grace of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and then
its true contents are revealed to him. The
Vachanamrut is a compilation of Lord
Swaminarayan's discourses with his devotees in
Gujarati (in Devnagri/Sanskrit script). There are
a total of 273 published talks (The Vadtal
version had 262), with an account of the date and
place. Shatanand Swami translated the Vachanamrut
into Sanskrit, and Brahmanand Swami translated
the Vachanamrut into Hindi.
