Title: Park at the cricket field at White Coppice SD619191

1
Park at the cricket field at White Coppice
SD619191
2
Walk past the pavilion and find the path over the
stone bridge
3
Take time to look at the River Goit where you may
see Grey Wagtails
4
Turn to the right after the kissing gate. Pass
beneath the oak tree
5
The path is well made and easy to follow
6
Keep an eye on the skyline to your left where
Kestrels are often seen
7
Less common birds seen here include Ravens and
Peregrine Falcons
8
The common trees of this part of the walk are Oak
and Alder
9
Check the ditches at the side of the path for
Amphibious Bistort
10
In the summer the ditches will attract
damselflies
11
You will pass a gate to your right which we will
pass through on the return walk
12
The path leads down a gentle slope to the road
13
The path comes to an end at a kissing gate
14
If you go to the right you will see the
picturesque Waterman's Cottage
15
Also you will see the inflow of the River Goit
into Anglezarke Reservoir
16
However, for this walk we turn to the left at the
kissing gate, cross the road and enter the woods
17
There is a gentle climb through the woods.
18
Good view of the reservoir to your right through
the trees
19
At the end of the woods is another kissing gate
20
From this gate there is a fine view of the
reservoir
21
The path from here is narrow
22
You will soon come to a bench. Turn to the left
and back on yourself here up a steep track
23
You will cross a meadow, cross a stile then
follow the path towards Siddow Fold
24
Cross the farmyard and rejoin the road via the
gate at the Gamekeepers Cottage. Make sure you
refasten the gate
25
Turn left and walk down the hill. There is
Whimberry on the banking. Green Hairstreaks could
be seen here in May
26
The road is not too narrow but watch out for
traffic!
27
You will see a small footpath sign on the left
side of the road.
28
The footpath itself is opposite the sign and is
otherwise easy to miss
29
It leads through a pleasant copse. Mostly Birches
and Alders
30
You will leave the copse by a stile. Turn to the
right
31
Walk with the birch wood to your right side
32
Across the meadow you will see the gate you
passed earlier. Go towards it
33
Crossing the bridge, you can look down on the
river
34
It is well wooded here but Moorhens will be seen
35
Having crossed the river, turn to the right and
follow the edge of the field
36
Pass through a wooded clough into an open
meadow. The path crosses it to your left - look
for the stile and gate
37
Follow the edge of the field through another gate
- rather a muddy one
38
There are splendid views of Black Coppice to your
right
39
You will soon see the farm buildings at White
Coppice Farm
40
The lodge and village are delightful. Turn to the
right when you reach the road
41
Walk back towards the cricket field. You will
pass another fishing lodge to your left.
42
Back where we began!
