  • In the gospel we discover the similarity of what
Jesus suffered and what these believers were
    suffering.

3
  • An essential component in Marks message is the
reality that cross bearing is integral to
    discipleship.

4
  • Men of Israel, listen to this Jesus of Nazareth
was a man accredited by God to you by miracles,
wonders and signs, which God did among you
through Him, as you yourselves know. This man was
handed over to you by God's set purpose and
foreknowledge and you, with the help of wicked
men, put Him to death by nailing Him to the
cross. But God raised Him from the dead, freeing
Him from the agony of death, because it was
impossible for death to keep its hold on Him.
    Acts 222-24

5
  • The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ,
the Son of God. It is written in Isaiah the
prophet I will send my messenger ahead of You,
who will prepare Your way a voice of one
calling in the desert, Prepare the way for the
Lord, make straight paths for Him. And so John
came, baptizing in the desert region and
preaching a baptism of repentance for the
    forgiveness of sins.

6
  • And so John came, baptizing in the desert region
and preaching a baptism of repentance for the
forgiveness of sins. The whole Judean countryside
and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him.
Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him
in the Jordan River. John wore clothing made of
camel's hair, with a leather belt around his
waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.

7
  • And this was his message After me will come One
more powerful than I, the thongs of whose sandals
I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I
baptize you with water, but He will baptize you
with the Holy Spirit. At that time Jesus came
from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John
in the Jordan. As Jesus was coming up out of the
water, He saw heaven being torn open and the
Spirit descending on Him like a dove.

8
  • And a voice came from heaven You are My Son,
whom I love with You I am well pleased. At once
the Spirit sent Him out into the desert, and He
was in the desert forty days, being tempted by
Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels
    attended Him.
  • Mark 11-13

9
  • Mark begins with a reminder of who Jesus is (the
Son of God) and a message about Gods eternal
purpose (to bring all people to repentance).

10
  • The gospel is bound fast to the promise of God.

11
  • The spiritual journey begins here with Gods
call to repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

12
  • After me will come one more powerful than I, the
thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop
down and untie. I baptize you with water, but He
will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
  • Mark 17-8

13
  • Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come
    down Isaiah 641
  • God was coming whether people chose to accept
    that fact or not.

14
  • You are my Son, whom I love with you I am well
    pleased.
  • Mark 111

15
  • What brought pleasure to the Father was seeing
His Son right in the middle of His unfolding
purpose for the world He loved so much.

16
