2The New Face of Crime
- Crime has always taken advantage of the tool of
the day post, fax, and now the Internet - Century 21s new opportunities also provide loop
holes for crime Internet freedom and presumed
anonymity (free email, chat rooms) - They are mostly young, wear innocent
statures/faces, are smart, believe they will
always beat the system, are proud of their
mentors, and have many excuses those are
todays criminals - New operations mostly feed on greed come in
deceptive emails, from bogus promises, through
identity theft, and from anonymous offices
(cyber-cafes). But office/home-originated cyber
crime cannot be ruled out

4The Need for Combat
- The effects of cybercrime on the individual, and
the nations image and indices are obvious.
Clog in the wheel of a New Nigeria - The wrong mentorship system that young Nigerians
are exposed to encourages a terrible rise in
cybercrime tendencies - There is a possibility that cybercrime will shift
from just cafes into homes and corporate spaces
(home access increases, employed youth join Yahoo
Boys for PP) - The myth that Yahoo Boys are very smart is being
broken by the day. See Pete Barlass Monday April
11, 2005 article in Investor's Business Daily,
FBI Agent Led Cyber Crime Raid That Broke Big
Case In Nigeria.
5Capacity Building
- Combating cybercrime comes from you staying off,
and then keeping others away (from the
hydra-headed monster) - There are tons of ICT skills that young people
can learn, that builds clean wealth website
designs, system maintenance, programming, support
services, policy engagement, ICT4D, etc Treasure
Avenue www.treasure.org.ng - Theres a growing demand for experts and
researchers who can demystify cybercrime
policy, software solutions, hardware tools, etc - Capacity building comes a little easier online
MIT Open Courseware, Google Scholar, School.ie,
ITrainOnline, etc - Lack of resources wont be a good excuse!
