Traditional Museum Concept (Internal use)

• The main IT function is to provide the Museum
  Collection Information System (MCIS) to collect,
  organize, preserve, display, disseminate the
  Museum Collection.

Contemporary Museum Concept (Public Service)
The main IT function is to provide Information
Service for Museum as a Cultural Center for
thought, production and dissemination of
knowledge as a tool for Public Access to
Cultural Heritage

• It was the first time, when Computer
  Technology came to the Museum in Russia
• Jakob Sherr from the State Hermiage used the
  Mainframe to create a Machine Catalogue for the
  fragment of the Antique Bronze Collection

1980-th
Collection DB Creation in Large Museums such
as Central Museum of Revolution, Tretyakov
Gallery, State Hermitage (Mini-Computers, Unique
Programs) .
1990-th
MCIS (Text Images) in Museums all over the
Country (Personal Computers, united in Network,
some types of Standard Programs).

is a special industrial technology for digitizing
of card catalogues, inventories and inventory
books. Information will be presented in necessary
format according to the approved list of fields.
