The Brown family lives in Greystanes.
There is mum,

Johnny
and Clare.
Johnny has enrolled for WYD08 with his parish in
package B. The Browns have registered as
homestay hosts for WYD week and they will be
hosting 3 pilgrims from overseas!!!

Youth Festivals
Description the Youth Festival features music,
performing arts, visual art exhibitions, debate,
film, community gatherings, street performers,
workshops and a VocationsExpo. When 2pm-10pm
(except during major events) at venuesacross the
city from Tuesday 15 July to Friday 18
July Where various venues throughout the city.
Major sites include St Mary's Cathedral and
forecourt, The Domain, Sydney Opera House
forecourt, Darling Harbour and Barangaroo

Opening Mass
Location Barangaroo (Darling Harbour
East) Time 430pm-700pm Capacity up to
150,000 people on site (live screens _at_
Domain) Description its the first major event
of the week, formally celebrating the opening of
WYD08. It will be presided over by Cardinal
George Pell, with all the bishops of the world. A
much-anticipated feature of the Mass will be the
arrival of the WYD Cross and Icon.

an Italian language catechesis. Johns group

Catechesis
Description Catechesis is sharing and learning
about faith and life. Catechesis will be
conducted in a variety of languages and will be
held in around 300 different locations throughout
Sydney. There will be approx 290 sites in Sydney.
  • Themes Holy Spirit and mission in the light of
    the Pentecost event.
  • The central theme is developed over three
    mornings in the following stages
  • Called to live in the Holy Spirit
  • The Holy Spirit, soul of the Church
  • Sent out into the world the Holy Spirit, the
    principal agent of mission
  • Location Catholic Churches, Churches of other
    faith denominations and commercial venues in
    Sydney metropolitan area
  • When Wednesday to Friday
  • 900am-1100am.
  • Mass 11am-12pm

Pilgrimage Walk
  • Main route from North Sydney to Randwick
    Racecourse (across Harbour Bridge, Western
    Distributor, Goulburn St, around Central Station
    and then to Randwick Racecourse via Campbell St
    and Anzac Parade)
  • 10Km walk
  • Approx. 180,000 participants along main walking
    route
  • Pilgrimage walk can be slow, and there is often
    considerable singing and praying from some
    national groups
  • Harbour Bridge reopens for trafficat 2.00 pm
  • Churches along the walking routewill be asked to
    be kept open forpilgrim Masses and for toilet
    stops

Vigil
  • Vigil consists of Ceremony of Light, testimonies
    of seven pilgrims, Popes address and farewell
  • 10.00 pm 7.00 am Adoration in tents at
    Randwick, Reconciliation available
  • No wet or inclement weather provisions (schools
    not available for accommodation on Saturday night)

What about Johnnys family?
  • Johnnys dad is an acolyte and offered to be
    sacristan for his Parish during catechesis
    sessions
  • Johnnys mum is helping out as Parish volunteer
    for lunch distribution after catechesis
  • They will be helping WYD volunteers

Parish volunteers
  • Each hosting Parish is asked to designate
  • someone to be on call to coordinate responses to
    any serious problem that may arise in relation to
    security and the maintenance of Parish
    facilities.
  • 2 volunteer parishioners who know how to open the
    Church and set up for Mass i.e. sacristans,
    acolytes or senior servers. One will be
    designated sacristan and the other site
    manager. They will liaise with the catechesis
    animating team.
  • Volunteers to assist with the serving of lunch
    provided by WYD08.

Parish volunteers are not WYD volunteers. No need
to register through WYD Office!

WYD Volunteers
  • WYD will provide volunteers in such roles
  • WYD Area Supervisors to assist in the
    coordination of accommodation and catering across
    a number of Parishes during the week of WYD.
  • WYD site-based Team a Team Leader and at least
    one assistant per site. Additional Team members
    will be appointed where larger numbers of
    pilgrims are being accommodated. Team Leaders
    will be provided with information essential to
    ensuring a prompt response to a range of medical
    needs and emergencies. They will liaise with
    pilgrim group leaders, the nominated Parish
    contact person, Area Coordinator and Diocesan
    staff, as required, in responding to issues
    affecting the well being of pilgrims and
    thesecurity and maintenance of
    Parishfacilities. They will arrange for
    thedistribution of breakfast and for theclean
    up after breakfast. They willkeep a general eye
    on the overallcleanliness of the Parish
    facilities.

Final Mass _at_ Randwick
The Browns are hosting WYD pilgrim. As part of
Homestay program they have been granted passes
for the final Mass on Sunday 20 for Randwick as
follows
