Title: SEIU Local 1000 Strategic Campaigns
1SEIU Local 1000Strategic Campaigns
2Strategic Campaigns
Last December, this Council unanimously adapted a
strategic plan that centered on
- Big changes in the way we do member
representation - A Sacramento-wide internal organizing campaign
- Focused union building campaigns in four
departments
3Why we targeted what we targeted
- Sacramento union weaker where we need to be
stronger - CDCR, SCIF, EDD, DMV big departments facing
- big challenges
4Core goal of our Sacramento and Departmental
Campaigns
To increase our capacity to win for our members
in the future. Capacity stronger union
organization at the worksites so we can do more
- More leaders and activists
- More people trained to represent members,
mobilize members, do effective political action - More effective communication with members
- More members taking an active part in the work
of the Union - and so on
Winning today is good Being able to win more
tomorrow is better!
5Since the December meeting, the Officers have
begun to aggressively implement these decisions
- The President has appointed a member Task Force
for each campaign, and staff, member leave and
financial resources have been committed to each
campaign. - Each Task Force is broadly representative of
the overall workforce (BU, program, geography,
etc.) - All Task Force members have committed to
working to build a stronger union in the
worksites in their departments And each Task
Force is responsible for making and implementing
plans to build the Union in their department and
to take on major issues that affect Local 1000
members. - A 2-day retreat for all task force members has
been set for March 5-6 to launch the campaigns.
