1UWS NANOTECHNOLOGY PROJECT
Building Nanotechnology Business Potential in the
Campbelltown-Camden Region
UWS is working with existing organisations
including local and regional peak industry
associations
- to identify existing enterprises with potential
for application of nano-materials technology - to facilitate and support development of
networks, new enterprises and industries (or
clusters) in nano-materials technology - to enable access to funding opportunities for
industry and product development with
concomitant research and training, including
research and development granting schemes
2BENEFITS TO REGION
Benefits to the region could be evaluated by
monitoring the following
- The number of industries identified with the
potential for rebadging in nano-materials
development.
- The number of new small/medium enterprises in
nano-materials in the region.
- The number of new employment opportunities that
arise in these new enterprises.
- The amount of research and development funding
(both private and public) from other sources
attracted to capitalize on the prospects.
- The number and diversity of new products and/or
processes that are developed.
- The number of research and training
opportunities that arise.

12CONCLUSIONS
- The process of building a Nanotechnology Network
in GWS is setting the foundations of this
knowledge hub in a region traditionally seen as a
low technology player.
- GWS will benefit from a long-term strategy of
community engagement where new generation
universities such as UWS can play a critical role
in the innovation culture of existing industries
- UWS and GWS need a considerable education
campaign to raise awareness of nanotechnology and
the opportunities that the Project is providing
to local businesses
- It is not yet conclusive about the long-term
effects of this initiative in the regional
industry.
