The Rise of The Ottoman Turks

• Under the leadership of Mehmet II the Ottoman
  Turks sacked the city of Constantinople.
• The Ottomans spread their influence into Africa
  and Asia.
• They also spread into Eastern Europe, as far west
  as Vienna.

Religion in the Ottoman World

• The Ottomans were Sunni Muslims.
• The Ottomans were generally tolerant of
  Non-Muslims.
• Non-Muslims were allowed to practice their
  religion, but were forced to pay a tax.

Women in Ottoman Society

• Technically, women in the Ottoman Empire were
  subject to the same restrictions as other Muslim
  societies, but their position was somewhat
  better.
• Women were allowed to inherit property, permitted
  to seek divorce, hold government jobs.

The Mogul Dynasty

• The founder was Babur. He was the first to
  conquer Delhi.
• His grandson Akbar took control of the rest of
  India for the Moguls.
• The empire started to fall as a result of poor
  citizens and expensive war champagnes.

British In India

• The fall of the Mogul Empire can also be
  attributed to the arrival of the British.
• The British East India company had exclusive
  trading rights in India.
• In 1757 Sir Robert Clive led a small British
  force beating the Moguls in the Battle of Plassey.

Mogul Culture

• Persian and Indian influences brought in a new
  architectural style.
• The Taj Mahal is a great example of this style.
