6- The vigorous pursuit of excellence remains a
full-time job, often offering benefits beyond
personal satisfaction, providing no compensation
other than rewards banked by the spirit, and
allowing little opportunity for vacation. It is
a job, however, for which anyone can qualify
regardless of age, gender, race, creed,
background or lifestyle. It is a career choice I
highly recommend. - Christine Todd Whitman
- Governor of New Jersey
7- Excellence doesnt happen without dedication and
hard work or without always taking the time and
effort to cross the ts and dot the is. I
always try and remember my fathers advice

- Former Secretary of State

Excellence further definition
- Paraphrased from Deming, W. L.
10We cannot hope to achieve our full potential
unless we recognize our interdependence, our need
for one another.
Excellence Shared Governance
- Paraphrased from
- Nordenburg, M.A.
- of Pittsburgh
11Excellence Shared Governance
- Shared responsibility is a sine qua non for
Excellence - Strong decisive leadership and Shared Governance
are not mutually exclusive indeed they are
interdependent - The focus should be on shared duties,
responsibilities, and stewardship less on
rights, privileges, and prerogatives.
12The Premises of Shared Governance
The Premises of Shared Governance
- Shared Governance is not democracy. It is an
accountability based approach to structure in
which there is a clear expectation that all
members of a system participate in its work.

15In a knowledge-based system, all workers
contributing to the outcomes of the system have a
right and an obligation to own the decisions that
relate to their work.
