Everyone faces Giants in our lives

• Impossible situations or people.
• Irreconcilable relationships or differences.
• Irresistible temptations or sins.
• Impairing haunting memories of the past.

Background (1Sam 171-19)

• Two armies meet in mile wide Elah valley, 15
  miles from Bethlehem

Israelite Army led by king Saul.

• A man after His Own Heart.
• Terrified, dismayed, great fear

The bravest men are no more than what God makes
them

Philistine Army led by their champion giant.

• Stood 9 feet 9 inches tall
• Coat of armor weighed 125 lbs.
• Spear weighed a total of 32 lbs.
• Goliath is the best-known heathen in the Bible.

Gods Hero of Faith young David (Heb 1132)

• A Nobody, Nobody Noticed.
• A man after Gods Own Heart.
• Acts 1322 After removing Saul, he made David
  their king. He testified concerning him 'I have
  found David son of Jesse a man after my own
  heart he will do everything I want him to do.'

• Start by doing Common things uncommonly well. Vs
  20-22
• 1 Samuel 1720-22 Early in the morning David left
  the flock with a shepherd, loaded up and set out,
  as Jesse had directed.

  should defy the armies of the living God?"

  the hand of this Philistine."

• "I cannot go in these," he said to Saul, "because
  I am not used to them." So he took them off.

• kept coming closer to David. 42He looked David
  over and saw that he was only a boy, ruddy and
  handsome, and he despised him. 43He said to
  David, "Am I a dog, that you come at me with
  sticks?" And the Philistine cursed David by his
  gods.

• I come against you in the name of the Lord
  Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom
  you have defied

• David ran quickly toward the battle line to
  meet him.

• So David triumphed over the Philistine with a
  sling and a stone after he killed him, he cut
  off his head with the sword When the Philistines
  saw that their hero was dead, they turned and
  ran

• Then the men of Israel and Judah surged
  forward with a shout and pursued the Philistines
