The Suns Interior

• Suns energy comes from nuclear fusion
• Hydrogen atoms join together to form helium
• Extremely high heat and pressure
• Core center of the sun 15 million degrees
  Celsius
• Change in mass from hydrogen to heliumconverted
  to energy light/heat

The Suns Atmosphere

• Three layers
• Photosphere
• Inner layer.sphere that makes light
• Photo means light
• Chromosphere
• Middle layer (causes red glow during eclipse)
• Chromo means color
• Corona
• Looks like a white halo (need special telescope)
• Corona means crown
• Solar wind electrically charged particles -
  auroras

Features on the Sun

• Sunspots areas of gas on the sun that are
  cooler than the gases around them (so, dont give
  off as much light)
• Number of sunspots varies
• Prominences reddish loops of gas, when sunspots
  are near the edge of the sun
• Solar Flares when hydrogen gas explodes into
  space, greatly increase the wind from the corona,
  so more particles reach earths atmosphere
