Email Settings
  • You can set up your computer to send and receive
Email through a POP3/IMAP4 account on SPCnet when
you receive email account information from the
Information Technology office. In most cases,
your login ID and Email username are the same.
By default, this is your first initial and last
name combination up to 8 characters. Specially,
if your name were John Kauffman you would be
assigned a login account of jkauffma (no n at
the end). You would use your login username to
access Email and please note that it is in all
lowercase. In all cases, you will be able to
receive Email using your first initial last name
    combination _at_ spc.cc.tx.us.
  • With this background information, you can seek
out a computer with a network connection to
access your Email account by using one of the
    following three methods Netscape Communicator,
Webmail, or QVT. The following pages are
step-by-step instructions on how to access all
three methods. Most people prefer to use
Netscape Communicator to access their Email but a
client such as Eudora or Outlook will work as
well. To configure these software packages you
would use the following settings using the name
of John Kauffman as the example
  • User Name John Kauffman
  • Login-ID Username jkauffma
  • Email Address jkauffma_at_spc.cc.tx.us
  • SMTP Server mail.spc.cc.tx.us
  • POP3/IMAP4 Server mail.spc.cc.tx.us
  • South Plains College also offers home dial-up
access to SPCnet and the internet from any
computer with TCP/IP and a PPP dialer.
Currently, there is no charge or support for this
service. All configuration details are given on
    the following website ---- http//www.spc.cc.tx.us
    /support
  • Please contact Olga Lozano at olozano_at_spc.cc.tx.u
s or call extension 2601 if you have any
difficulties or need your password changed.

Valor Telecommunications of Texas, LPValor DSL
Service
  • In an effort to bring high speed, off campus,
Internet access to our Faculty and Staff, South
Plains College has partnered with Valor Telecom
to offer DSL service in Levelland. With this
offering, you will connect directly into the SPC
network. SPC will remain your ISP and all
services you enjoy with your modem connection
will be available through the DSL connection.
  • You will be required to purchase DSL service
from Valor at 30/month (plus activation and
equipment as outlined below), but, you will
continue to receive Internet Access through SPC
free of charge. The contract below details the
    service offering from Valor.
  • If you currently have a second phone line that
you use only for your computer, this DSL
connection could replace that phone line. Take
this into consideration when factoring the costs
    involved.
  • Please note that DSL service is not currently
available in Levelland. However, with SPC
expressing interest in providing DSL service to
employees, Valor has made the commitment to order
the necessary equipment to provide DSL. The more
SPC employees who show interest, the faster the
service will be available. Please do not
hesitate. If you are interested, complete the
form below and return it to me immediately.
  • If you have any questions about this service,
either technical or administrative, please send
    me an email. Thanks!

DSL Service Agreement
  • 8. In addition to the type of computer you use,
the availability of DSL service from Valor
depends upon where you receive telephone service
and the characteristics of your telephone line.
Valor has developed a qualification process that
tests your individual telephone line for
compatibility with DSL service. We use our
customer records to test your telephone line for
common characteristics that are known to
interfere with DSL service. You will not be
charged for DSL service or equipment if testing
reveals that your telephone line will not support
    DSL service.
  • Even if Valor initial testing indicates that
your telephone line qualifies for DSL service, it
is possible that additional physical tests may
reveal compatibility problems on your telephone
line that were not identified in our initial
    testing.
  • If Valor determines through either the loop
qualification process or additional testing that
you do not qualify for DSL service, you will be
notified immediately and your order will be
    cancelled.
  • If you terminate your DSL service before the
one-year contract length has expired, you still
owe Valor for a full year of service at the
monthly rate for the service to which you
    subscribed.
  • In the event that Valor does not obtain signed
and binding contracts which have not been
cancelled within 30 days of execution for the
provision of DSL for a total of at least 75 lines
that meet the technical requirements for
installation DSL service in your serving
exchange, this agreement shall terminate with no
further liability or obligation on your part.
  • You may cancel this agreement by sending written
notice to Valor within 30 days of the date you
execute this agreement. Please send the
cancellation to (Please check with Tim Winders
to make sure your order has been sent to Valor
    first).

  • I understand that by signing this agreement, I
am undertaking an obligation to purchase DSL
service from Valor for at least one year at the
