Accountability ProjectSpring, 2006
2Why Assess?
- No Child left Behind requires all students to be
technology literate by the end of 8th grade.
3- In order to meet this requirement, the Arizona
Department of Education is requiring all
districts that receive Title IID funds to assess
a random sampling of 5th and 8th grade students.
4- TUSD has been required to assess 1,375 5th
graders and 1,375 8th graders.
5Why 5th Grade?
- 5th graders were chosen to take this assessment
to give them time to improve and remediate their
technology skills by the time they reach 8th
grade.
6Which Students Will Be Taking the Assessment?
- 5th grade classes and 8th grade social studies
classes were selected to take the assessment
based upon their demographics.
7Which Demographics are Used as Criteria for
Taking the Assessment?
- Since 14 of all students in TUSD are classified
as ELL, the classrooms selected to take the
assessment mirrored this demographic. In order to
ensure 14 of the 2,700 taking the assessment
were ELL students, some of the classes chosen had
a slightly higher or lower percentage of ELL
students.
