    imaging pulsed radar, TMI-like radiometer)
  • 8 constellation satellites (passive microwave
    radiometers)

  • Improved spectral features with respect to SSM/I
    dual polarisation in all channels (18.7, 23.8,
    36.5 and 89 GHz) and additional 157 GHz channel
    for improved light rain and snow detection
  • Spatial resolution comparable with TRMM TMI (5.5
    km at 89 GHz, significantly greater than 15 km of
    SSM/I and successor SSMIS)
  • Add-on slices (rain radar, improved radiometer)
  • 35.9 GHz nadir-pointing rain radar with 3
    cross-track parallel beams and 4 km (h) x 250 m
    (v) resolution
