Objectives of the Social and Labour Plan
  • Promote employment and advance the
  • social and economic welfare of all South
  • Africans
  • Promote economic growth in the Republic
  • Ensure that holders of mining rights
  • contribute towards socio-economic
  • development and poverty of the areas in
  • which they are operating and labour
  • sending areas

  • Targets provided not specific on race and gender
  • Women at the mine vs women in mining
  • No mentorship for JV and service providers
  • Lot of training without looking at the end
    product i.e placement-undermines the objectives
    of the SDA

Conclusion
  • The MPRDA is a better piece of legislation than
    Minerals Act, 1991,
  • The MPRDA has rejuvenated the mining industry,
  • There is still a long way to go.
  • SA belongs to all who live in it.
