Why career guidance in a school context?

• Importance of lifelong learning to make people
  more flexible with regard to the labour market
• Dutch Government has stated that the career of
  the individual student must become a central
  feature within the educational process

• Developments in the field of career guidance have
  been increased considerably.
• Most, if not all, secondary education schools
  have first, second and third line support for
  career guidance of their students

Status anno 2007 VMBO (pre-vocational) sector

• Students spend 10-20 of their first 2 years on
  a practical sector orientation programme
• Students go out on work placements during their
  third and/or fourth year
• An increasing number of VMBO schools are
  introducing an additional career guidance
  structure

vocational) sector

• Every ROC (Regional Training Centre) has a
  central student services centre
• Within each course tutors or apprenticeship
  officers are available for guidance
• An increasing number of ROCs are introducing a
