Parenting Tips

• Understand your teens changing physical,
  intellectual and social-emotional needs
• Become knowledgeable of your teens world
• Provide time to listen to your teen. Ask
  questions to understand, not judge.
• Give teens opportunities to make decisions and
  allow them to assume responsibility for their
  decisions.
• Recognize your teens efforts, help set realistic
  goals, and have faith in your teens abilities.
• Resist the temptation to do for teens what they
  can do for themselves.
• Be consistent when stating your rules and
  expectations.
• If the situation requires discipline, follow
  through with consequences that fit the
  misbehavior.
• When you and your teen disagree, remain open and
  listen without interrupting. State your concerns
  calmly.
• Nurture your relationship by finding time to talk
  with your teen and do fun things together.

Parent Education

• Develops the skills that promote the goals of
  parenting.
• Creates a support/networking system for parents
  as they develop new skills.
• Recognizes that you can change your relationship
  with your teenager, but you cannot make your
  teenager change.
• Promotes a positive atmosphere in the home so
  that teenage problems can be addressed
  constructively.
