Title: The 3 Abominations that maketh Desolate

1
The 3 Abominations that maketh Desolate
2
Matthew 2415-16 When ye therefore shall see the
abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel
the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso
readeth, let him understand)Then let them which
be in Judaea flee into the mountains
3
Mark 1314 But when ye shall see the abomination
of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet,
standing where it ought not, (let him that
readeth understand,) then let them that be in
Judaea flee to the mountains
4
Daniel 1131 And arms shall stand on his part,
and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength,
and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they
shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.
5
Daniel 1211 And from the time that the daily
sacrifice shall be taken away, and the
abomination that maketh desolate set up, there
shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days
6
Daniel 926-27 And after threescore and two
weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for
himself and the people of the prince that shall
come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary
and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and
unto the end of the war desolations are
determined. And he shall confirm the covenant
with many for one week and in the midst of the
week he shall cause the sacrifice and the
oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of
abominations he shall make it desolate, even
until the consummation, and that determined shall
be poured upon the desolate.

When the Christian form of worship took the
place of the Levitical, a change in Satan's form
of opposition and counterfeit worship became
necessary, if he would successfully oppose the
worship of the Great God. And it is in the light
of these facts that we are able to understand the
Lords reference to the abomination of Desolation
in Matt 2415. It is evident that He there cites
Dan 926,27. Now although we do not understand
that paganism in the year 70 had given place to
Popery, we do understand that the same power
which then appeared, modified somewhat in name
and form was the very power that should as the
abomination of desolation wear out the saints of
the Most High. The language of Paul is to the
point For the mystery of iniquity popery doth
already work only he who now letteth will let,
until he be taken out of the way 2 Thess 27,8
That Paul refers to paganism and popery, none
question. And here is direct proof that popery,
the abomination of desolation, had in Pauls day
already began to work The Sanctuary and the
2300 days, Elder J N Andrews p35
8
In his analysis of the persecuting powers of
Gods people throughout the ages he developed the
concept of the two abominations, defined as
paganism (the first abomination) symbolizing the
persecuting force outside the church, and the
papacy (thesecond abomination) representing the
persecuting power within the church. It was the
motif of the two abominations that characterized
most of his following prophetic interpretations.

Seventh-day Adventist Message and Mission, 22.

  • And the Saviour warned His followers "When ye
therefore shall see the abomination of
desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet,
stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him
understand) then let them which be in Judea flee
into the mountains." Matthew 2415, 16 Luke
2120, 21. When the idolatrous standards of the
Romans should be set up in the holy ground, which
extended some furlongs outside the city walls,
then the followers of Christ were to find safety
    in flight. GC 26

The preparations were made according to the
command and in obedience a further injunction,
Moses directed that a barrier be placed about the
mount, that neither man nor beast might intrude
upon the sacred precinct. If any ventured so much
as to touch it, the penalty was instant death.

And the Saviour warned his followers "When ye
therefore shall see the abomination of
desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet,
stand in the holy place (whoso readeth, let him
understand), then let them which be in Judea flee
into the mountains."MATT. 2415, 16 LUKE2120.

should be set up in the holy ground, which
extended some furlongs outside the city walls,
then the followers of Christ were to find safety
in flight. Great Controversy P27

Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual,
but that which is natural and afterward that
which is spiritual. 1Corin 1546.

Luke 2124, And they shall fall by the edge of
the sword, and shall be led away captive into all
nations and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of
the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be
fulfilled.
15
And there was given me a reed like unto a rod
and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure
the temple of God, and the altar, and them that
worship therein. But the court which is without
the temple leave out, and measure it not for it
is given unto the Gentiles and the holy city
shall they tread under foot forty and two
months. Revelation 111-2

2 Thess 23-4 Let no man deceive you by any
means for that day shall not come, except there
come a falling away first, and that man of sin be
revealed, the son of perdition Who opposeth and
exalteth himself above all that is called God, or
that is worshipped so that he as God sitteth in
the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

And are built upon the foundation of the
apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being
the chief corner stone In whom all the building
fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple
in the Lord In whom ye also are builded together
for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
Ephesians 220-22

I turned to look at the company who were still
bowed before the throne they did not know that
Jesus had left it. Satan appeared to be by the
throne, trying to carry on the work of God. I saw
them look up to the throne, and pray, "Father,
give us Thy Spirit." Satan would then breathe
upon them an unholy influence in it there was
light and much power, but no sweet love, joy, and
peace. Satan's object was to keep them deceived
and to draw back and deceive God's children.

In our own country there are thousands of all
nations, and tongues, and peoples who are
ignorant and superstitious, having no knowledge
of the Bible or its sacred teachings. God's hand
was in their coming to America, that they might
be brought under the enlightening influence of
the truth revealed in His Word, and become
partakers of His saving faith.--Review and
Herald, March 1, 1887.

Many were driven across the ocean to America and
here laid the foundations of civil and religious
liberty which have been the bulwark and glory of
this country. GC 252.1

  • Here are given the characteristics of those who
shall be reformers, who will bear the banner of
the third angel's message, those who avow
themselves God's commandment- keeping people, and
who honor God, and are earnestly engaged, in the
sight of all the universe, in building up the old
waste places. Who is it that calls them, The
repairers of the breach, The restorers of paths
to dwell in? It is God. Their names are
registered in heaven as reformers, restorers, as
raising the foundations of many generations
Review and Herald Oct. 13, 1891

24
  • The Lord's people are seeking to heal the
breach which has been made in the law of God.
"And they that shall be of thee shall build the
old waste places thou shalt raise up the
foundations of many generations and thou shalt
be called, The repairer of the breach, The
restorer of paths to dwell in. If thou turn away
thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy
pleasure on My holy day and call the Sabbath a
delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable and
shalt honor Him, not doing thine own ways, nor
finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine
own words then shalt thou delight thyself in the
Lord and I will cause thee to ride upon the high
places of the earth, and feed thee with the
heritage of Jacob thy father for the mouth of
    the Lord hath spoken it."
  • This disturbs the enemies of our faith, and
every means is employed to hinder us in our work.
And yet the broken-down wall is going steadily
up. The world is being warned, and many are
turning away from trampling under their feet the
Sabbath of Jehovah. God is in this work, and man
cannot stop it. Angels of God are working with
the efforts of His faithful servants, and the
work steadily advances. We shall meet with
opposition of every description, as did the
builders of the walls of Jerusalem but if we
watch and pray and work, as they did, God will
fight our battles for us and give us precious
    victories. 3Testomonies p573

25
The time is not far distant, when, like the early
disciples, we shall be forced to seek a refuge in
desolate and solitary places. As the siege of
Jerusalem by the Roman armies was the signal for
flight to the Judean Christians, so the
assumption of power on the part of our nation, in
the decree enforcing the papal sabbath, will be a
warning to us. It will then be time to leave the
large cities, preparatory to leaving the smaller
ones for retired homes in secluded places among
the mountains.--Testimonies, vol. 5, pp. 464,
465. ChS 161.1

  • And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the
Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth,
and shall destroy with the brightness of his
coming Even him, whose coming is after the
working of Satan with all power and signs and
lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of
unrighteousness in them that perish because they
received not the love of the truth, that they
might be saved. And for this cause God shall send
them strong delusion, that they should believe a
lieThat they all might be damned who believed
not the truth, but had pleasure in
    unrighteousness.

What is the message to be given at this time? It
is the third angel's message. But that light
which is to fill the whole earth with its glory
has been despised by some who claim to believe
the present truth. Be careful how you treat it.
Take off the shoes from off your feet for you
are on holy ground. 14 MR P127
