Early Life

• Born on January 21,1738 in Litchfield,CT
• Parents Joseph Mary Allen
• Oldest of eight children
• Learned to read from Reverend Jonathan Lee of
  Salisbury, CT

Adulthood

• Married Mary Brownson in 1762. He was 24 yrs.
  Old.
• Formed the Green Mountain Boys.

Importance During Revolution

• Captured Ft. Ticonderoga in 1775.He was 37 yrs.
  Old.
• Participated in an invasion of Canada and was
  captured. He was freed in a prisoner exchange.

Later Years

• Spent the rest of his life trying to get Vermont
  to statehood.
• Died in1789.(49 yrs.)

• Has a monument in Statuary Hall. He represents
  Vermont.
