Loading background information.
  • The French revolution was a time of great
suffering and also a time of change. He kings
were feasting on plentiful food while the
peasants were staving with no food. The nobles
and church had all the power and the say in
government, while the peasants had no say in
    government. So they revolt

Loading information for meeting of estates
general...
  • This was a step towards democracy because the
peasants actually said what they wanted to say
and influence the king later on. It also lead to
    the tennis court oath.
  • The meeting of the estates general was meeting
that was called for 2 reasons. The king was in a
financial crisis and wanted to tax the 3rd estate
or the peasants. The 3rd estate was there to form
a new government, they wanted a government where
they voted by order and every person had a say.

We need a new central government

Loading information for tennis court oath..
  • The tennis court oath was the 3rd estate locking
themselves on a tennis court. They made a pledges
that they wouldnt leave until they though up a
new constitution. Soon they drafted the the
constitution of 1791, and then called themselves
    the National Assembly.

Im not leaving without a new constitution!
  • The tennis court oath was definitely a step
towards democracy. The 3rd estate drafted a new
constitution that let every one have a say in the
government, and that it was not only 1 vote per
estate it was 1 vote per person.

Loading information for storming of the
Bastille..
  • The storming of the Bastille, was the 3rd estate
storming the Bastille and taking weapons from the
old prison. This occurred July 14th, 1789, this
was the the starting of the revolution. The
peasants stole guns and gunpowder as well as
wrecking the Bastille. This was a sign to the
government that the peasants were willing to
fight and take up arms against the king

Take all the guns and ammunition!
  • This was and wasnt a step towards democracy.
This was a step towards democracy because the
government realized that the peasants weren't
push over and they might have to change their
laws and style of government. This wasnt because
the government wasnt going down with out a fight
and the peasants army didnt scare the government
    into signing a treaty.

Loading information for the march to Versailles
  • The women of Paris were outraged at the king,
there was no bread for the poor through out the
country So the Parisian women stormed the palace
of Versailles, they took the king and queen back
to Paris and demanded that they do something
about this famine that had destroyed life for
many in Paris The king made a promise to the
people of Paris that he would end the famine The
March on Versailles was a step towards democracy
because the people showed that they did have
power over the king, and could settle national
    problems

We want bread! We want bread!

Loading the Reign of Terror
  • Robespierre was the head of the Committee of
Public Safety, in his campaign for public safety
he killed more then 40,000 using the guillotine,
thats about 72 people a day People were
slaughtered every day for such things as stealing
bread, to treason against the government

Razor sharp I would hate to be on the receiving
end
This was a major step away from democracy, the
people of France were being slaughtered every
day, and these were the people of the republic

Loading napoleons Rise to Power..
I crown myself I dont need any part of the church
  • Napoleon was a military success, not only did he
lead the French army to many victories, he was
crowned himself emperor of France. He implemented
the ideal reforms of the revolution This was a
step away from democracy because Napoleon was a
military dictator, he also enacted the Napoleonic
Code of Laws, this code of laws limited the
freedom of speech and religion in France

  • After napoleon Europe set up the Congress of
Vienna. The Congress of Vienna put back those in
power before napoleon, made all borders the same,
as before napoleon. This congress lasted over 40
years, one of the most lasting agreements ever
made in Europe at the time. France also reverted
    back to a constitutional monarchy.

I saw we return him to power what do you say?
