Progression of Visual Processing
  • As information moves forward from V1 it becomes
    more processed.
  • As you progress to later stages of visual
    processing the neurons have larger receptive
    fields and are sensitive to a broader range of
    stimuli.
  • For example in V1 you have cells sensitive to
    oriented lines, while in IT neurons
    (infero-temporal) are object / face recognition
    neurons.

Blindsight
  • This very rare condition occurs when the visual
    cortex is damaged by stroke or other trauma.
  • However information is still sent to the Superior
    Colliculus and from there to the rest of the
    brain.
  • This information is impoverish and people who
    have blindsight are unaware of it.
