Status of International Roaming

• CDMA international roaming coverage continues to
  expand
• In Asia - Australia, Guam, Hong Kong, Japan,
  Korea
• In Latin America - Argentina, Dominican Republic,
  Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico
• Steady increase in coverage expected in 2001
• International Roaming team
• Co-chaired by Masaaki Koga, KDDI and Terry Yen,
  CDG
• Developing roadmap for data roaming and
  interstandard roaming
• Executing data roaming strategy

Team Mission Statement

• Work to increase coverage of CDMA global
  roaming and support evolution of capabilities to
  CDMA2000 networks in an increasingly information
  intensive market environment
• We will accomplish this mission by
• Working with carriers to support deployment of
  international roaming service
• Promoting our accomplishments to date
• Submitting contributions to 3GPP2 to define
  standards to support carrier implementations
• Participating in relevant organizations that
  facilitate 3G roaming evolution
• Emphasizing data roaming capabilities

• Data roaming is recognized as top priority
• Circuit switched data roaming is identified as
  highest near term priority
• Roaming team can begin discussion to move
  initiative forward, but lacks resources and
  experience base to lead the team
• Interested members should contact Terry Yen (CDG)
  to discuss CommWorks Corp. participation is
  highly desired

Objectives for 2001

• Expand coverage to more carriers in Asia Pacific
  and Latin America
• Asia Pacific - China, New Zealand, Philippines,
  Thailand, Vietnam
• Latin America - Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, El
  Salvador, Peru, Venezuela
• Sign first direct interstandard roaming agreement
  between CDMA and GSM carriers (e.g., not through
  third party solutions)

Meeting Schedule

• Remaining 2001 meetings
• June 11 - Hong Kong
• Sept 12 and 13 - Tokyo
• Nov 7 and 8 - Auckland
• Team is investigating potential of holding
  additional meeting in October in Seattle to
  coincide with Americas Congress
• Such a meeting will aim to bring together Asia
  Pacific, North American, and South American
  operators
