Title: Capacity Building in Integrated Water Resources Management

1
Capacity Building in Integrated Water Resources
Management
Harnessing the Power of Networks
2
Who are we?
  • Cap-Net is a partnership of training
    institutions, knowledge centres and water
    managers around the world
  • We seek effective capacity building for
    sustainable management of water resources.

3
Our Partners
  • Cap-Net is an associated programme of
  • Agencies that support our work are
  • Global and regional networks make up the Cap-Net
    network

4
The Global Network
5
What do we do?
  • Help countries to build the human and
institutional capacity in water management to
    reach Millenium Development Goals
  • Use the power of networks to ensure relevance,
sustainability and to scale up capacity building
    actions

6
The power of networks
  • Made up of 19 geographic and 3 thematic capacity
    building networks, Cap-Net helps

International development organizations and
research institutes to increase their outreach
and impacts on the ground, incorporate local
knowledge and ensure the relevance of their work
Local, national and regional organizations to
share tools and knowledge, access training and
other resources and better coordinate activities
Donors and multilateral agencies to scale-up
impacts and get the most from their capacity
building investment
7
Advantages of the Network approach
  • This approach
  • triggers cascading impacts by training of
    trainers
  • crosses disciplinary and national boundaries
  • connects capacity-builders and implementers
  • provides knowledge on demand
  • integrates state-of-art knowledge
  • Leverages significant financial support at local
    level.

8
Cascading Impact Training of Trainers (ToT)
Cap-Net and partners develop and organize
international ToT courses that synthesize
  • Best available research
  • Local knowledge
  • On-the-Ground experience

Then, adaptation and replication at local level
is done
9
Some results

  • Such events have trained other trainers,
    educators, students, water managers, researchers
    and decision makers

10
How participants are using the training
  • The knowledge and skills acquired
  • are being used to
  • Adapt and broadcast
  • Conducting regional and national training courses
  • Customizing training material for local use
  • Organizing in-house workshops for colleagues
  • Develop new capacities
  • Skills of water managers for day-to-day
    activities
  • Refining post-graduate curricula
  • Developing new courses
  • Developing learning material
  • Create awareness in decision-makers
  • Providing training to government staff
  • Raising awareness among high-level policy-makers
