What is random art
  • Random art is using a random set of numbers to
create a piece of artwork. To get the set of
numbers you would need to use probability.
  • Probability is how likely something is to happen,
and the chances of that happening.

3
How To create random art ?
Step 1 Using a dice we can assign a shape to each
number on the dice. A colour is also given to
each number.
  • What we need
  • Squared paper
  • A six sided dice
  • A pencil
  • Colour pencils
  • Paint

KEY
4
  • Step 2
  • We roll the dice to get a number. Then we draw a
shape on the squared paper, according to the
    table.
  • e.g. if you roll a 1 you would draw a shape of a
    square.

Step 3 You would repeat the step above, but
remembering the next consecutive shapes are
drawn from the vertices of the previous
shape. e.g. if you roll a 3 you would have to
draw triangle.
5
Step 4 After we filled the paper up with shapes,
we can colour them in using the key for
guidance. e.g. square light blue
Triangle purple
  • Step 5
  • After colouring in all the shapes we added the
    finishing touches
  • We went over the shapes in a black marker.
  • We painted the edges in a darker shade to give
    more tone.
  • We also painted the background.

6
What I know about Random art
  • Since we have used random numbers the design
which we get by drawing the shape will be
    different the next time.
  • This creates a unique and original type of art as
it cannot be repeated, using the proper method.

Circle and Compass Markings
  • In order to construct the basis of the design,
we needed to draw a circle, preferably using a
    compass.
  • To create a HEXAGON a six-sided polygon, the
compass was placed on the edge of the circle to
mark six arcs. This was joined together to form
    the hexagon.

11
We realised if we applied geometrical mathematics
to this circle, we could construct a polygon with
how many sides we required.
This is our formula C p x d V C no.
of sides.

Using the Formula to Constructing a Pentagon
1. The diameter is 10cm, 10 x 3.14 C 31.4cm.
3. 6.28cm is the value of the distance
between each mark.
10 cm
2. 31.4 5 6.28cm
4. Join the points to form a PENTAGON.

Sum-digits
17
What are sum-digits?
  • Sum-digits are made when you add the separate
    multiples of a number together.
  • For example, 12---123
  • You would do this with each multiple until you
    find a repeating pattern.
  • You would then keep drawing lines clockwise, and
each one would be the amount of the sum-digit.

18
The sum-digit of 3.
  • 33
  • 66
  • 99
  • 12---123
  • 15---156
  • 18---189
  • 21---213
  • And so on

19
And so on
20
  • You would keep going around until you get back to
    the starting point.
  • You can then colour it in different colours. You
could have a different colour for each sized box.
  • You can then paint it or put a pattern around it.
