Gary was born in May,17,1939.He was raised with
his grandmother and his aunts for the first
couple of years because his father was stationed
in Europe during World War II.His mother worked
in a factory.

Some of his books that he wrote were Tuckets
Travels, The Boy Who Owned the school, Dogsong,
Hatchet, Canyons, The Cookcamp, Harris and Me,and
The Foxman were some.

Gary spent many times at the library because he
had hard times at home and had many problems at
school.He loved animals like horses and dogs (he
had many).He married an illustrator Ruth Wright
Paulsen.He was told not write for boys, and he
did and he was very successful too.he has been
honored Newbury prize 3 times and he has written
over 80 books.
