3Deontological Model of Organizational Justice
- The deontological model of organizational justice
(Folger, 2001 1998) argues that justice is a
moral virtue held by all individuals that assists
in regulating interpersonal behavior. - We ask Are there individual differences in the
extent to which this justice virtue is held??
4Support for the Model
- We will make personal sacrifices in order to hold
another accountable for an injustice - Even if we are not the victim
- Even if the victim is anonymous
- Even when we have nothing to gain from the
situation - Kahneman, Knetsch, Thaler, 1986
- Turillo, Folger, Lavelle, Umphress, Gee, 2002
- the deontological effect
5Extending the Model
- We propose that while all individuals may
internalize justice as a moral virtue, there may
be individual difference in the extent to which - Individuals internalize justice
- Individuals are attentive to issues of justice
around them - Justice Orientation
6Justice Orientation Defined
- Two proposed sub-facets
- Internalization Extent to which a individuals
internalize justice as a moral virtue - Attentiveness Extent to which individuals are
attentive to issues of fairness around them
7Hypotheses
- Justice Orientation will exert its effects in
multiple places in the justice process
