1The Library Catalogue
2From the Library homepage follow the link to
the catalogue.
3The catalogue home page consists of 3 parts Top
banner - with links to University and library
websites, My Library and Help. Central search
interface - where you choose search type and
input search words. Right side section -
supplementary links and news.
4For a basic search there are three main elements
5Search types
1 Search type The catalogue defaults to Keyword
search, but you may select Advanced, Title,
Author or Subject in the top tabs, or, ISBN,
Classmark etc in the Other Searches menu.

2What words you want to look for e.g. knowledge
economy
7Which collection
3Which part of the collection you want to look
in e.g. All Collections, Journals, E-Resources,
Theses
8Lets look for books about knowledge economy in
All Collections.
9First 18 hits are in the top relevance group
Most relevant titles
Sorted by relevance
The results list displays all the items that
match your Search sorted into up to five
relevance groups. Within each relevance group
items are displayed in date order (most recent
first)

Sorted by date
You may switch easily from relevance sort to
date or title sort by clicking in the top sort
menu. eg. This shows the results in date order
(reverse date)

Sorting by title. Here is an alphabetical list of
ecology journals produced by doing a keyword
search on the word ecology in the Journals
Collection and then switching to title sort .

Library location
You can see basic details about items in the
initial display of hits. eg.Title, author,
publisher, edition, library location, and format
icons on the right side.
13Click on a title link to view a record.
14Here you can see more information about the
book. Availability gives the information about
each copy of the item.
15The Location tells you where to find the item.
eg. Main library, Learning Grid, Short
Loan Important Click on these locations for
further information. For example click on Main
Library and you get a classmark locator.
16Here is another example of clicking on a
Location. Click on BioMed Grid and a pop up
appears with information about the BioMed Grid
and a map.
17Classmark tells you where on the shelves to look
Loan type tells you how long an item can be
borrowed, or whether it is for use only in the
Library.
Status tells you if the item is available in the
Library, or, if it is on loan, when it is due
back.

19Click on Full Record to see all the catalogue
record information.
20- Click on Find Similar Items to isolate the
subject and author headings. - You may click on these headings to find
- other works on these subjects
- other works by these authors.
21Click on Permalink to get a permanent link (url)
for this catalogue record. You can copy and
paste this web address into a web page. eg.
Reading list, blog, web bibliography.
22Type in the name of the journal e.g. Harvard
Business Review
Select the Journals collection
You can search for particular types of material.
For example a journal Choose title search,
enter Harvard Business Review, select Journals
collection and click on Submit.

Click on title of print journal for location and
holdings
24We can see the two locations for this print
journal the years which are held in the library
and the most recent copy received. In this case
pre-2000 holdings are held in our Store.

holdings and access
26Check that holdings dates cover the date you are
interested in, then, click the link to access
full text..
27Sometimes you may find that a book is already on
loan
in that case you can request the book if you
need it yourself.

29Enter the letter p followed by your library
barcode
Enter your library PIN
Click Submit
If you want to, you can choose a date when the
book will no longer be useful to you.
Further help
30If your request is successful you will see this
message. An email will be sent to your Warwick
account when it is ready to collect.
31You can view your own library record at My
Library. 1. View and Renew loans 2. Check and
cancel requests 3. Save favourite searches 4. Set
up email alerts 5. View outstanding fines 6. Keep
your reading history 7. Set up My Feed RSS

Use help if you have problems

record in My Library. Remember this is your
personal space and the information is
confidential to you. LOGOUT when you are
finished!
34 Dont forget to use the Help function if you
get stuck. Click Help in the top right corner
of any catalogue page.

- Make use of the location guidance in the
catalogue. - To access journal articles, search by the journal
title not the article title.
