Letter
  • Dear Cathedral Students,
  • Im honored that I was chosen to be your
philanthropist for the common good. As you know,
I dedicated most of my life fighting in the Civil
Rights Movement. I always believed in standing up
for whats right, as exemplified in my I Have a
Dream speech. As an African American, growing
up in the South and being raised as a Baptist,
the Civil Rights Movement had a major effect on
my life. I simply could not stand back and watch
as my peers were treated so unjustly.

6
Letter cont.
  • One of my proudest moments, as a philanthropist,
was receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. I
dont know if you know this but I was the
youngest man, second American, and third black
man to receive this honorary award. Youre
right, it wasnt always easy to fight this war of
segregation but my hard work paid off. I wanted
to make the world a better place and I always
dreamed for a better future for all people, and
not just African Americans. Although my name is
most commonly associated with the Civil Rights
Movement, I couldnt have done it without the
    help of other passionate people.
