Plants are Like our Bodies
www4.tpgi.com.au/ users/amcgann/body/
There are many parts that each serve a purpose.
Without each part doing its job, the plant will
not live.
3
ROOTS
Roots take in water and minerals from the soil to
keep plants alive. What parts of your body take
in food and water to keep you alive?
www.somers.k12.ny.us/. ../plantinfo.html
4
Roots
  • Like the mouth and esophagus in your body take
in food and water, roots take in water and
minerals from the soil to help the plant live and
    grow.
  • Roots also hold the plant tightly to the soil.
  • They provide storage for minerals.

5
STEM
The stem gives the plant support and holds the
leaves up to the sun. What part of your body
gives you support?
6
STEM
  • Like the bones in your body hold you up and give
support, the stem of a plant holds the leaves
    upright to the sun.
  • The stem also transfers water and minerals to the
    leaves.

7
Leaves
  • Leaves are the food factory of the plant. They
    manufacture food for the plant.
  • What part of your body processes food?

8
LEAVES
  • Like your stomach and intestines process your
food, the leaves of the plant produce food for
    the plant.
  • Leaves absorb light energy from the sun and
carbon dioxide from the air. They combine them
with the water and minerals to produce glucose
(sugar) and oxygen. The glucose is the food for
the plant and the oxygen is released into the
air. This process is called PHOTOSYNTHESIS.

Flowers and Fruit
The flowers and fruit attract insects and birds
for pollination? What about you might attract
insects or other peoples attention?
10
Flowers and Fruit
  • Like the clothes and perfume you wear attract
people and insects to you, flowers and fruit
attract birds and bees to plants.
  • Flowers make new seeds.
  • The fruit of a plant holds the seeds that will
    later grow a new plant.
