3Students from Stephanie Clarks 5th grade class
worked with members of the California
Conservation Corps and the City of Stockton
Public Works and Municipal Utilities Staff.
4They pulled out shopping carts, tires, cardboard,
and all sorts of debris.
5Principal Ernest Peterson was amazed that after
nearly two hours of pulling debris out of the
creek, he could hear the movement of water in the
creek for the first time in a very long time.
6What a wonderful group!

8Students worked together to paint murals on both
sides of the Cherbourg Bridge which crosses the
creek.
9The artwork was the design of local artist, Kelly
Prendergast.
10She worked with the students to paint the murals
depicting the flow of water.
11On Tuesday, May 17, 2005, Mr. Peterson, Ms.
Prendergast, and 18 River Oaks students were
presented with a Certificate of Recognition by
Vice Mayor, Gary Giovanetti at the Stockton City
Council Meeting.
