Two to four foot perennial with three foot spikes
of red flowers, one to several stems which rise
from 50-150 cm high

This plant may be found in dryish to moist
conditions to 6000' in chaparral and coastal sage
scrub
Triangular shaped leaves arranged oppositely on a
square stem, blade 7-19 cm
Blooms from March to May. Flower has a
reddish-maroon upper lip and the lower half is
paler to yellowish-green
Native, along the coast from B.C. to L.A.
