Final Group Project
  • An Overview of Member Roles

7
The Producer
  • The Producer is the leader of the group project.
While the project is collaborative, all logistic
decisions ultimately fall with the Producer.
  • Specifically, the Producer is responsible to
coordinate and oversee the other members
    responsibilities, to manage the pre-production
schedule, organize and attend group meetings, and
sign off on all scheduling and budgetary
    decisions made during production.
  • The Producer is also responsible for overseeing
the Production Binder worth 25 of the whole
    groups final grade.

8
The Director
  • The Director is the creative leader of the
project. His/her artistic vision will shape the
    development of the entire film.
  • The Director is responsible for approving all
    creative decisions, including casting, shot
lists, production design plans, locations, script
    revisions, etc.
  • On set, the Director alone guides actor
performances and works with the Director of
    Photography to make shot decisions.

9
The Writer
  • The Writer writes the screenplay.
  • . . .
  • . . .
  • . . .
  • He/she also writes script revisions as requested
    by the Producer and Director.

10
The Director of Photography
  • The Director of Photography, sometimes called the
Cinematographer, is responsible for camera and
    lighting.
  • For the purposes of this project, the DP must
    operate the camera on set.
  • The DP should also work closely with the Director
in creating the shot list, storyboards, and
overhead floor plans for camera placement.

11
Production Designer
  • The Production Designer is in charge of designing
the look of everything that appears in front of
    the camera.
  • For this project, the Production Designer will
act as set dresser, prop master, wardrobe
supervisor, and location scout, or at least
    oversee these responsibilities should additional
    crewmembers be brought onboard.
  • As part of the Production Binder, the Production
Designer will create a complete art department
    plan.

12
The 1st Assistant Director
  • The 1st Assistant Director is the set foreman, in
charge of running, organizing, scheduling, and
overseeing all set activities during production.
  • The 1st AD is responsible for creating all call
    sheets, schedules, and production reports.
  • He/she is the Producers eyes and ears and the
    Directors mouth on set.

13
The Script Supervisor
  • The Script Supervisor is in charge of maintaining
continuity from shot to shot, take to take.
  • The Script Sup takes copious notes about every
single camera take. He/she makes sure that
everything from dialogue lines to actor staging
to placement of props maintains consistency
throughout the shooting of a scene.
  • The Script Sup also acts as the set court
reporter, recording much of the information that
ultimately goes into the 1st ADs production
report at the end of the day.
