3On April 20, 1999, in the suburban town of

5The first victim was 17-year old Rachel Scott.
Rachel was outside eating lunch with a friend.
She had known Dylan Klebold, one of the killers,
since kindergarten.
6Rachel had been eating lunch with Richard
Castaldo. Richard was also shot, leaving him
paralyzed from the waist down.
7Sean Graves, Lance Kirklin and Daniel Rohrbough
were leaving the cafeteria when they saw the two
boys with guns. Dylan Klebold shot Danny
Rohrbough and then Lance Kirklin. Danny Rohrbough
died instantly.
8This photo was taken after the attack. The
yellow evidence tags mark where bullets hit

10Dave Sanders, the teacher who had told kids in
the cafeteria to run for safety, came up the
stairs and saw Klebold and Harris with guns
raised. He was about to turn a corner to safety
when he was shot.
11Walking through the library to the windows,
Klebold shot and killed Kyle Velasquez, who was
sitting at a computer desk rather than hiding
under a table.
12Corey DePooter was sitting with his friend,
Austin Eubanks. Corey died in the library.
13Daniel Mauser was in the library when he was shot
by Eric Harris while hiding under one of the
tables. Daniel died under the table where he had
hidden.
14Lauren Townsend was a straight A student and
cheerleader. She died in the library.
15Kelly Fleming loved to read. She wanted to be a
writer. She died in the library next to Lauren
Townsend.
16 When Dylan Klebold saw football hero Isaiah
Shoels hiding under a table, he called Eric
Harris over. Klebold made a racist comment to
Isaiah, and tried to pull him out from under the
table. When that failed, Harris killed Isaiah.
17Klebold turned and fired on Matt Kechter. Matt
died sometime later in the library.
18John Tomlin hid under a table in the library.
Dylan Klebold came around the table and shot John
killing him almost instantly.
19Steven Curnow was hiding under a small computer
table when the shooting began. He was the
youngest victim of the Columbine tragedy.
20Cassie Bernall was hiding under a table when she
was shot and killed.
21This police photo shows the chaos they discovered
when they entered the library. Again, yellow
tags mark where bullets hit.
22As students outside began to see their friends
being carried out on stretchers, the impact of
what had happened hit them.

24Rather than turn themselves in, Dylan Klebold and
Eric Harris committed suicide together.
25The shooting was followed by days of grief...
26and the one question that haunted everyone
WHY???
27Families and friends attended the funerals of
those who died.
28When the event was over, there were 13 killed and
21 injured.

30And you have to wonder what the future may have
held for the victims.
31Columbine High School has added several memorials
to honor the 13 victims of that tragic day.
32But perhaps the most powerful memorial was the
one created by the first victim, Rachel Scott.
Her parents found this outline of Rachel's hands
and this message scrawled in marker on the back
of a piece of furniture in her room.
33Meet Rachels Challenge and bring hope for
everyone by touching millions with your own acts
of kindness.
